Study visit for Jordanian officers to the Spanish National Police

2021-10-27

On 26-27 October, Frontex organised a study visit for 14 Jordanian officers to the Madrid Airport and the General Commissariat of Policia Nacional.

The visit aimed at sharing experiences, resources and know-how between the agency and Jordanian delegation. It was held within the framework of the EU4BorderSecurity project, run by Frontex and funded by the European Commission’s European Neighbourhood Instrument.

The meeting focused on the different activities performed by the Spanish National Police. The agenda for the first day included sessions with Document Fraud Investigation Section of the Central Unit against Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Frauds and with the National Centre for the Coordination of Border Crossing Points of the Central Border Unit. The following day the delegation paid a field visit to the National Police headquarters at the Madrid Airport in order to learn first-hand about the Spanish National Police’s mandate in border management, its working methods, automated border control, and the core principles of European integrated border management.

The visit was the result of the ongoing cooperation between Frontex and Jordan, as well as one of the activities developed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic by the EU4BorderSecurity. Cooperation with the neighbours, and in particular with partner countries in the Middle East and North Africa, is one of the priorities of Frontex in the external dimension.

Fostering international cooperation as key component of integrated border management, the project promotes the exchange of experiences and best practices between the border management communities and capacity-building in crisis management, contingency-planning, situation monitoring and risk assessment, border checks and countering cross-border crime.
