Frontex signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Turkey

Representatives of Frontex and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed today a memorandum of understanding in the agency’s Headquarters in Warsaw.
Frontex Executive Director Ilkka Laitinen and Director General for Consular Affairs of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ambassador Şakir Fakılı signed the document, which promotes establishment of practical cooperation between Frontex and Turkish authorities competent in border management. Frontex and the Turkish authorities agree to cooperation in the fields of risk analysis, training as well as research and development. Moreover, Frontex and the competent Turkish authorities concur to exchange experiences and best practices in border control and foresee the possibility of deployment of Turkish officers to selected border crossing points at the external EU borders under the Focal Points project. The intended cooperation will be implemented via contact points established in the respective units for each of the areas of cooperation referred to above.
