On 25 and 26 November Frontex hosted an expert meeting on Trafficking in Human Beings. Experts from Member States of the EU and representatives of such international organisations as IOM, UNHCR, ICMPD, UNoDC, Europol, Eurojust and Interpol also participated in this two-day long conference.
The meeting focused on the current situation of human trafficking in Europe and possibilities of the European Border Guard Authorities to combat this phenomenon. The participants noted the rising trend in trafficking of minors and trafficking for forced labour in the EU. Criminal networks trafficking people into and within the EU are increasingly sophisticated and make use of variety of techniques to control their victims.
The discussions concentrated on data collection, identification of and assistance to the victims, good practices and strengthening of the inter-agency cooperation.
