Frontex hosts ambassadors in Warsaw

Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri and Deputy Executive Director Berndt Koerner told the guests about the strategic priorities for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, which has been built on the foundations of Frontex. The guests were also updated on the current migratory situation at the EU’s external borders.
“The large mixed migratory flows and the internal threats witnessed by EU Member States last year have put the management and security of the external borders at the centre of the political agenda in Europe,” said Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri.
“We need external borders that help to preserve the EU internal security in an area without internal border control,” he added. “This can be done by supporting detection of irregular migration and prevention of cross-border crime and terrorism, the main tasks of the new European Border and Coast Guard Agency.”
The European Border and Coast Guard Agency will start its activities when the regulation enters into force on 6 October 2016.
