Today Cecilia Malmström, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs visited Frontex Headquarters in Warsaw.
She discussed with the Frontex Executive Director Ilkka Laitinen the current situation at the EU’s external borders and about the tasks and activities of the Agency.
“This is my first week at work and I wanted to start as soon as possible by visiting Frontex to gain more insight into its activities before the presentation of a proposal to strengthen Frontex” said Ms Malmström.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Laitinen stressed its significance “this visit was important for the implementation of the Stockholm programme and it is very encouraging that the Commissioner should choose the question of Frontex’s role as one of the first issues that she wished to concentrate on” – he observed.
