    • Austrian Chancellor visits Frontex Headquarters in Warsaw

    Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker visited Frontex headquarters in Warsaw today for talks with Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens on the challenges at Europe’s external borders, operational cooperation and the future role of the Agency. 

    Austria remains an active contributor to Frontex operations, with Austrian officers working alongside colleagues from across the EU and Schengen area in support of national border authorities. 

    At the Agency’s Operational Centre, Chancellor Stocker was briefed on how Frontex follows developments at the EU's external borders, supports operations on the ground and coordinates deployments across different operational areas.  

    "European border management is a shared effort. Every day, officers from different countries work side by side at Europe’s external borders, and Austria is an important part of that," said Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens.
    “What we do here in Warsaw has to translate into practical support at the border. That means getting people, equipment and information where they are needed and making sure national authorities can rely on Frontex when the pressure increases.”

    Discussions also covered current trends at the EU’s external borders, as well as ways in which Frontex is able to continue strengthening its support to Member States as the Agency develops. 

    For Frontex, the visit was also an opportunity to showcase how the Agency brings together national expertise and operational resources from across Europe.

    “Frontex is at its strongest when European cooperation becomes something practical,” Leijtens said. “Not another layer of administration, but officers working together, information being shared quickly and support reaching the border when it is needed.”
