Eurosur goes live Eurosur goes live 2014-01-20 The EU's long-awaited pan-European surveillance system, Eurosur, went live on December 2, 2013. In the first phase of implementation, 19 Schengen countries having external land or sea borders adopted the system. The remaining 12 participating states will join the network by December 1, 2014. The first of these will be Croatia, the newest member state and the one with the longest land borders, scheduled for inclusion by the end of March. Read more
Frontex and Eurojust sign Memorandum of Understanding Frontex and Eurojust sign Memorandum of Understanding 2013-12-18 Frontex and Eurojust signed a Memorandum of Understanding today at Frontex’s Warsaw HQ. Executive Director Ilkka Laitinen represented the Agency in a signing ceremony with Michèle Coninsx, the President of Eurojust. The Memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the two agencies focusing on the fight against serious cross-border crime such as trafficking in human beings and smuggling. Read more

Conference on the European System of Border Guards Conference on the European System of Border Guards 2013-10-07 Frontex, in association with the Academy of European Law (ERA) is pleased to announce the upcoming conference “The Feasibility of a European System of Border Guards (ESBG): A Practitioners Perspective.” The event will be held in Warsaw between the 28-29th October, 2013 and will gather together various agency and departmental stakeholders as well as representatives from national border authorities across Europe. Together, they will debate the merits such a system would entail as well as its practical/legal obstacles. Read more
