Frontex and Romanian authorities led MME Callatis 2025, a large-scale maritime exercise in the Black Sea on 21–22 August, bringing together EU and national agencies for five high-intensity scenarios, from hostage rescue and irregular migration to mine clearance, oil spill response and SAR. With over 250 Frontex officers in Romania, the drill showcased joint operational capability, including the first mixed crewing of a Maltese Coastal Patrol Boat, and reinforced Romania’s role as a key hub for European border management.
