Results of the Research Grants Programme Call for Proposals

2025-05-19

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, is pleased to announce the results of its first Call for Proposals under the Research Grants Programme. The executive summaries of the final research reports, reflecting the diverse and impactful outcomes of the awarded projects, are available in booklet form.

The Call for Proposals, initiated in 2022, was designed to support small-scale technological research addressing critical challenges in border management and serve as a mechanism to enhance  dialogue with academia and non-profit research organisations. The programme has successfully engaged a multitude of researchers, fostering collaboration and innovation.

The published booklet provides a comprehensive overview of the research findings, highlighting the objectives, methodologies, and key insights from each project. By sharing these outcomes internally within the Agency, with the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG) community, and with the general public, Frontex aims to promote transparency and encourage further dialogue and development.

The completion of this first Call is just the beginning of our journey to deepen collaboration with the research community. Our long-term vision includes integrating these efforts into the Frontex Innovation Management System and the Frontex Innovation and Technology Centre to be established on the future Frontex premises. The forthcoming innovation centre will attract researchers to jointly develop and showcase innovative prototypes in response to the requirements of the EU border and coast guard community. We are committed to building a lasting dialogue and driving forward-thinking solutions together.

The booklet is available for download on the Frontex website: Frontex Research Grants 2024
