“My name is Victor. I have been part of the standing corps since January, but I have more than 20 years of experience in the field of returns.
I support Italian authorities at Rome’s Fiumicino airport with return-related matters as a Forced Return Escort and Support Officer.
I often work with returnees from sub-Saharan Africa. I talk to them, provide them with information about the return procedure and try to calm them down to make the process go smoothly. It takes empathy and experience, but also specialised training. I am proud to serve as a standing corps officer, putting my expertise at the service of Frontex and of Italy.”
Forced-return escort and support officers are there to help national authorities in all phases of the return operation. They escort persons who have received a return decision from national authorities, but also identify and assist vulnerable groups or families with children.
The officers are trained in mediation techniques, first aid procedures, child and vulnerable groups protection.
