Meet Jelena, one of the first recruits to the Frontex standing corps from Croatia.
“I took part in four international missions in North Macedonia. Those foreign missions made my life richer. I had a feeling that I am doing something good for the community. That’s why I decided to apply to Frontex. I see Frontex as an opportunity to serve my community on higher level. When I am protecting EU border, I am protecting my own country as well.
The first part of the training that we all started in June was demanding, but we were all supporting each other with a lot of positive vibes. It was interesting to learn from others about their experience. At Frontex I am keen to focus on fighting cross-border crime, especially trafficking in human beings.
In my spare time, I like shooting. I was participating in shooting competitions organised by police associations where we shot from high calibre pistols, same as a service weapon. Once I even won the top prize at an international competition in Croatia.”
