Athanasios joined Frontex in 2020. He graduated from Frontex's Standing Corps specialised training as a motor vehicle crime detection officer. Before joining Frontex, Athanasios worked in various positions in the Hellenic Police, including nine years in the traffic police as a duty officer, three years as a manager of the security for government figures, and one year as a commander of a police department. Currently, Athanasios works as a stolen car expert on the Bulgarian border with North Macedonia.
"My job is very important, because stolen cars are used for financing organised crime. I am mainly responsible for recognising motor vehicle crimes. I also prevent human trafficking and every type of smuggling while fighting cross-border crime and identifying people in need."
