    Frontex Photo Competition Results

    Frontex’s photo contest, "Ties that Bind: Bridging borders in modern Europe" is now closed. First place was taken by Marcin Klepacki for his picture "Crossroads." Curtis Budden, a professional photographer commissioned to judge the entries, said the winning image, “gives the viewer plenty of room for interpretation. [...] The photographer uses leading lines and a shallow depth of field to direct us to the real subject of the image, which is not the bridge but the man standing on it. more

    Annual Risk Analysis 2013 published

    The year 2012 saw a 50% decrease in the number of illegal border crossings detected at EU level compared to the year before. Moreover, at around 73 000, it was the first year since systematic data collection started in 2008 that the total figure for the year stood at less than 100 000. more

    Warsaw, 16 October 2012 — At its inaugural meeting at Frontex’s Warsaw headquarters today, the agency’s newly-formed Consultative Forum on Fundamental Rights elected its first two Co-Chairs. Ms Aydan Iyigüngör, of the EU’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) and Stefan Kessler of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) will serve for one year as Co-Chairs representing EU Agencies and NGOs respectively. more

    Situational update: Migratory situation at the Greek-Turkish border

    The numbers of migrants crossing the Greek-Turkish land border dropped from over 2000 a week in the first week of August to little over 200 in the second week. This is the direct effect of increased surveillance and patrolling activities by the Greek authorities, which included the deployment of an additional 1800 officers along the Evros river at the beginning of August. more
